I'm Mitchell Bocchini, a game development student at Niagara College completing an advanced diploma with a specialization in programming and design. I'm the networking lead on my capstone project, Dual Orbit, a cooperative asymmetric multiplayer game built in Unity.
"Designing games lets you be an engineer and an artist at the same time, and I've never found anything that scratches both itches at once. For me, building something that works is satisfying, but building something that works and resonates with people is something else entirely.
My path into game development is unconventional. I spent years in culinary management running kitchens, building menus from scratch and leading teams through high-pressure service.
That background shapes how I work. Kitchens run on systems, communication, and execution under pressure and so does a good game studio. I know what it takes to ship something, lead a team, and stay calm when things break at the worst possible moment.
What brought me here is a different story. The pandemic gave me space to step back and figure out what I actually wanted, and what I kept coming back to was games. The more I dug into how they were made, the more obsessed I got. Learning to code and thinking about design felt less like studying and something closer to finally having a creative outlet that made sense.
Right now I'm deep in Unity networking architecture relay-based multiplayer, server-authoritative design, and the genuinely humbling experience of debugging race conditions across client-host sessions. I also compose audio pipelines, write game dialogue, and have been known to model a 3D asset or two when the situation demands it.
